3 ways to brighten your kitchen this holiday season

17883348408_81af4ae541_bThe holiday season is upon us and with it comes family gatherings, meals, and holiday parties galore. And we all know that everyone’s favorite place in the house is the kitchen! The best way to prepare and fully enjoy and highlight your delicious meals and culinary creations is with good lighting. So here are 3 ways to brighten your kitchen this holiday season.

Pin up your pendant lighting

The nice thing about pendant lighting is they’re a great way to create an open feel to your kitchen and add some color and style too. Pendants are great in kitchens with high ceilings to add light and visual interest. Regardless if you’re using pendants to add additional light and style or if you’re adding pendants to increase your task lighting for food prep, it’s best to choose a pendant that throws light in all directions to enhance ambient lighting; or pick one with a shade that directs light down to create task lighting, especially over an island.

Never underestimate under-cabinet lighting

Under-cabinet lighting is the must-have task lighting in every kitchen, especially around the holidays because it helps bathe countertops with bright light; especially darker counters. According to the National Kitchen and Bath Association, a kitchen with dark surfaces needs about one-third more light than a kitchen with lighter surfaces. The better you can see, the easier and more pleasant your food prep experience will be. Under-cabinet lighting can also be used to highlight a beautiful backsplash.

Lighting from the inside out

Interior cabinetry lighting might be considered to be a luxury to some, but coming home to a kitchen with a warmly lit glow showing off your favorite china through the glass is an experience that has to be felt to truly be appreciated. There are so many lighting options that can be used inside your cabinets from linkable low-voltage puck lights and strip lights to recessed mini cans that can be installed inside glass-front cabinets to emphasize collectibles. You can even set up lights deep into the corner of cabinets to allow you to maximize the space in your cabinets and find what you’ve stored.

If you’d like to add some exciting lighting upgrades or cabinetry additions to your kitchen or home this holiday season, we can help.
